So how do I use the It Works body wrap?

  • Apply the wrap to clean dry skin. I like to shower and exfoliate the area first.
  • Take a picture.
  • Remove the wrap from the package and unfold it.
  • Place it lotion side down on your skin and hold it in place with tight clothing, elastic bandage or plastic wrap.
  • Wear it for at least 45 minutes.
  • Remove and vigorously massage the lotion into your skin.
  • Make sure you are well hydrated the day before you wrap, the day of, and the day after. Avoid diet soda and tea if possible.
  • I’d recommend you take pictures after you remove the wrap, and for the next 3 days afterwards. Your results will continue to get better. Remember that a full treatment is considered 4 wraps. You will probably want to wrap the same body area every 3-7 days until your box of wraps is gone. Eating healthy and exercising will help you get better and longer lasting results!

Sleep Training

I absolutely love to cuddle with my kiddos. To listen to her coos and sighs, her slurps of breastmilk while she plays with my hair and nuzzles right up next to me. It’s magical! I am amazed at this tiny human, this beautiful baby I made (we made:)) However, I do not enjoy sleeping with her! She is up every couple of hours to nurse. And well, I just can’t do it anymore. Long term sleep deprivation truly is torture.

I know how it is to be desperate for sleep. I get it. I really do. There are times I’d do just about anything for some rest! Many times I have fallen asleep nursing and decided not to get out bed to put baby away. Each time this happens I regret it. Without a doubt, baby girl wakes more often to nurse and I worry I’ll roll over on her. Nobody at our house is getting good sleep, especially me. So we’ve decided to bite the bullet with baby girl and do the whole sleep training thing.

I believe sleep is a learned skill we need to teach our babies. I’ve read every book about sleep, trained as a nurse, and even worked for an amazing pediatrician. The following are just my tips and tricks for training your baby to sleep better (not meant as medical advice!)

TiredMeme

As long as your baby is gaining weight appropriately and is not ill or diagnosed with any other medical condition…. At 4 months of age they can sleep a minimum of 6 hours! They have mature livers which can sustain their blood sugar throughout the night. With the exception of growth spurts or sickness, most of the time when they wake up and want to nurse it’s really about comfort! We wake up naturally several times per night, but as adults we can usually soothe ourselves back to sleep. We need to teach the baby how to self-soothe too.

Nurse on demand throughout the day. So that baby is getting enough nutrition and isn’t waking up due to hunger.

Move baby out of your room! They can smell mom-especially if your breastfeeding (crazy huh?!) They will sleep longer and more soundly in a different room.

Teach baby the difference between night and day. Choose an 8-hour time period that works best for your family. (Our family does 9:00-5:00) During this time, if they wake up- no breast or bottle feeding. Dad gets up to comfort her by offering reassurance or in our case rocking baby back to sleep the first few days of sleep training. (Yes, we modified the advice a little bit- for the sake of our 3 year-old. I want him to sleep through the night at least.)

Involve your spouse. Yes, he may need to work in the morning, but so do you! I’d even go so far as to argue that caring for a baby is probably more taxing than a traditional 9-5. (I know working my J-O-B is easier than being at home sometimes. Shoutout to all those working moms!) Plus my husband means business, I’m the pushover.

Establish a bedtime ritual (Ours is bath time, pjs, nurse, and stories as they get older.) No music, lights, vibrating mattresses, etc. They become dependent on those things to sleep. A comfort item like a blanket, stuffed animal, etc. is fine; maybe even helpful for older kids (avoid suffocation hazards!)

So how do you sleep train?

Lay baby down in the crib. Give hugs & kisses then say, “it’s bedtime I love you-goodnight.” Immediately leave the room. Wait 10 mins, if baby is still crying enter room say, “Alexa it’s okay-bedtime.” Check on baby make sure she is safe. Immediately leave the room again. *Do Not pick up or touch baby! This is key. (DO NOT give in, if you do, forget everything you just did and consider yourself completely starting over!)

Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

The first night is the hardest. But if gets significantly better each day. This method takes 3 days total! 3 days of hell, fury, damnation & drama. But your lives will be forever changed at the end!!!! Trust me on this.

This isn’t meant to make you feel judged or inadequate or anything else if you don’t parent the same. This is what works for me and my family. I’ve become the sleep training “guru” for my friends and family and thought I’d share what I’ve learned with you all. It’s amazing how much better you feel with adequate rest. Good luck!

Other People’s Opinions About Me Aren’t My Business

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much personal development I’ve experienced since becoming an It Works Distributor. I honestly joined thinking it’d be great to earn some extra cash each month. I was thinking $300 and I’d be happy! At first I treated this as a hobby. I didn’t allow myself to dream big. I expected I’d continue to meet the status quo- that we’d always have debt. I honestly didn’t think an introvert like me could ever be successful.

This experience has helped me to realize that the opinions of others really don’t matter that much! I used to worry about “bugging” people. I doubted myself. I was afraid of failure. The truth is you will ALWAYS have your critics! Now I just ask myself if the critique is true or helpful, and then I either dump it or I consider how I can make a change. I’ve learned failure is an important part of growth. I’ve become more self-aware and make a conscious effort NOT to dwell on the negative.

Most people respect that I am following my heart. Some doubt me. Some don’t care either way. I refuse to let others determine my goals, my dreams, my future! This business has allowed me to be with my kids nearly every day of the week. I was able to pay off the birth of my daughter before we even left the hospital, I bought my son a new furniture set from Pottery Barn Kids, I paid off my student loan AND I’m up for a $10,000 bonus this month! In the end, my true friends and family support me and build me up. I have found a new tribe that inspires and motivates me every day! I sell high quality products and I help others change their lives too! What could be better?

Happy Mother’s Day!

I hope you feel loved and appreciated today! Being a mother is my greatest pleasure and joy. I love these kids more than I’d ever hoped or imagined. I’d give my left knee for either one- no questions asked! Like most mothers, I worry that I’m not doing enough. I struggle to balance everyones needs amongst all the chaos of my busy life.

I make an effort to stay true to who I am by doing something I find enjoyable each day. I try to make playdates for my son with other parents I relate to. We visit places (zoo, aquarium, park, etc.) that I like. We dance & sing while completing monotonous tasks (seriously how many times do kids poop in a day?!) No matter what stage of life you are in, I encourage you to take some time to appreciate them and do things that make you happy too.

All Calories are NOT Created Equal

What you eat can greatly effect your hormones and metabolism. For the better or for worse! Calorie counting is one way to lose weight. Another way that’s worked for me is what I call “clean” eating.

On this diet I eat lean meats, high fiber (lots of vegetables,) fat, and cut out most carbs. It’s a variation on the Paleo or South Beach Diet. High protein helps you to gain muscle and lose fat. I have been more successful eating this way because I’m not hungry all the time, like I’ve been when counting calories.

Eat less sugar and starch (carbs.) Insulin is known as the fat storage hormone. It is secreted at higher levels when you eat refund sugars and carbohydrates making it more difficult to lose fat. For those high fat meals you may regret, try Fat Fighters! The supplement blocks some of the fat and carbohydrates from your meal so your body doesn’t absorb it.

Eat more protein. Protein is the king of all nutrients! It boosts your metabolism and keeps you fuller for longer. Every meal should include protein, fat, and vegetables. Eat between 0.5 – 1.0 grams of protein per pound of body weight. (For example a 150 lb women would eat between 75-150 grams per day.)

Drink water, coffee, or tea. Avoid soda, juice, beer, and other sugary drinks. They are an empty source of calories. Meaning your body does not feel satiated when you intake them.

If you can stomach it chili peppers have a substance called capsaicin, which some studies have shown reduces appetite and increases metabolism. One of my favorite supplements is called Thermofit. It is made with capsaicin, you get all the benefits of chili peppers, without the burn!

Some of my favorite foods are listed below:

  • greek yogurt (I like Oikos or Fage)
  • cottage cheese
  • milk 2% or soy
  • black beans
  • tuna
  • chicken breast
  • tilapia (Costco has my favorite, panko crusted!)
  • steak
  • ground beef
  • eggs
  • turkey
  • peanut butter
  • mixed nuts
  • quinoa
  • oatmeal
  • brown rice
  • ProFit protein smoothie (add milk and strawberries, then blend with ice. So good!)
  • spinach
  • kale
  • broccoli (I’ve been really into broiling broccoli with some olive oil and sea salt. Yum!)
  • avocado

Some great snacks you can just throw in your purse:

  • jerky
  • string cheese
  • apples
  • nuts
  • protein bar

Losing Weight The Basics

I just returned from my 8 week postpartum doctors visit. Ugh, I’ve got some baby weight to lose! Over the years my weight has been up and down. During my senior year of high school I gained 25 pounds. Lost it. Gained my “freshman 15.” Lost it. Had my first baby, gained 40 pounds! Lost it. Now after baby #2 I’m struggling to find the motivation to do it yet again! Instead of focusing on feeling overwhelmed I’m going back to the basics.

Start small and keep it simple. While I love some of those fancy fitness trackers (FitBit, Up, Garmin, etc.) you don’t NEED them! The concept of weight loss is to burn more calories than you take in. Choose one lifestyle change below and incorporate it into your week. It only takes 30 days to develop a habit.

1 pound of fat = 3500 calories. To lose a pound per week you need a calorie deficit of 500 per day. To determine how many calories you should eat use the “rule of 10” to find your BMR (basal metabolic rate.) Multiply your weight in pounds by 10. For example: a 150 pound woman would eat 1500 calories each day.

Need a boost? Try Thermofit a natural plant based metabolism booster made from red hot chili peppers. All the benefit without the burn! One of my favorite products from It Works.

Eat breakfast if you don’t. It will jump-start you metabolism, balance your hormones, energize, and turn on your brain. Studies have shown that people who eat within 2 hours of waking weigh less than people who don’t!

Keep a food journal. You are far more likely to be successful if you track what you eat. Some studies conclude you are twice as likely compared to those who don’t! Increasing awareness and learning “better” foods to eat will absolutely blow your mind! If you’re a big Starbucks fan (like me) I’d recommend sitting down before you google those nutritional facts. I really like the app My Fitness Pal.

Move. Do more than you did yesterday! Park further away than usual, take the stairs instead of the elevator, go on a short walk- increase your distance week by week. Again make SMALL changes and eventually they will become a habit.

Be accountable. I can’t stress how important this is! Find someone (besides yourself) to keep you in line. A friend, spouse, workout buddy, join an online group (there are many,) meet with a personal trainer if your budget allows. Invest in yourself! It’s money well spent.

eat this not that

Homemade Body Wraps

Do homemade body wraps actually work?

There are many sites out there that claim to offer DIY alternatives to the ItWorks body wrap. I’ve seen several different combinations of the following ingredients: bentonite clay, cayenne powder, green tea, seaweed powder, aloe vera, coffee grounds, cypress, fennel seed, goat’s milk powder, apple cider vinegar, ginger root, juniper berry, olive oil, Preparation H, honey, and list goes on!

Next they suggest, you slather the mixture on your skin and wrap with saran, garbage bags, or a foil thermal blanket and wait. Some sites even went so far as to recommend wearing a PVC type of sweat suit and then wrapping yourself up in a heating blanket for an hour after applying the homemade concoction! I don’t know about you, but I do not have most of these ingredients just laying around at home. Nor do I have the time to mix, boil, heat, and cool. Not to mention the clean up afterwards! These homemade wraps aren’t comparable to our wraps.

So why waste your time and money?

Our wraps are easy to use, no mess, and inexpensive! The Ultimate Body Applicator helps tone, tighten, and firm in a manner that produces lasting results and without water loss! Our product has hundreds of customer testimonials. Check out the before & after pics below.

This is my story…

Hello and welcome to my first blog post!

I did not stumble across this business on purpose. I was just living my life, head in the clouds, feet on the ground- if you will. I thought my little family was doing well. I, a registered nurse had worked my way into a leadership position at the hospital. My husband a plumber, welder, & pipe fitter foreman, running jobs all over the valley. We were busy, stressed, but paying our bills on time. After I had my first child everything changed. I know it’s cliche, but it is so true! My son, the light of my life. Suddenly, I wanted to stay home with him. To nurture and watch grow.

My good friend Ingrid was in a similar situation. She had a professional position as a biologist, working full time her son in daycare. She told me she had started with this great company called ItWorks. I was skeptical. I thought she was crazy. I thought it wouldn’t last. Eventually, she quit her job, retired her husband, became an Ambassador Diamond, and top 50 income earner! Finally, I decided to give this crazy wrap business a try.

My dreams are becoming a reality.

Follow my journey.

Write your own story.
